The iconic Lione ankle boot is made of suede, also called velours, which is softer and more flexible than standard full-grain leather (“pieno fiore”), and fully waterproof. This design is extremely adaptable, comfy and easy to put on and off thanks to the lateral elastic band called “easy-on”. It reached the peak of its success in October of 1961 when Paul McCartney and John Lennon fell in love with the Chelsea Boot and bought four pairs of them for The Beatles - adding heels - in a shop in Charing Cross Road in London.
Each creation keeps the promise our artisans made: make the company innovative fully paying its respect to the Italian shoemaking tradition. The history of Mille885 is an Italian story: it is authentic, a narrative to be told.
The story of this shoe, which became famous thanks to the four legends from Liverpool, presents a rich seam of anecdotes. From early Sixties, the simple ankle boot became an iconic feature for several cultures and youth groups. In particular, they identified the young sub-culture called MODS - the abbreviation for modernists - a term that, at first, was coined to name the modern jazz lovers. The MODS were British young rebels - as a result of the challenging conditions of the time they grew up in - with a deep passion for aesthetic. In fact, they adopted, over time, a sober, minimal, and extremely elegant style up to the finer details, being inspired by the Ivy League look, that is, the way of dressing born in the most prestigious American University campuses. Their motto was, “Adopt, Adapt, Improve”. For they used to be inspired by the flair for fashion they had, following the European pop-culture fads, still remaining original, minimal and functional.
